UNICLEANPLUSTM provides expert guidance on purging procedures for extrusion, accumulator, and injection blow molding.

Blow Molding is an essential manufacturing process for producing hollow plastic parts. This process depends significantly on the selection of the right Purging Compound to maintain efficient production and ensure superior product quality. UNICLEANPLUSTM, a well-known leader in Purging Compounds for Thermoplastic applications, offers expert guidance on choosing the ideal Purging Compound based on the type of resin and processing temperatures used.

For Extrusion Blow Molding, the recommended process starts with increasing the die temperatures by approximately 55°F to 65°F. This temperature adjustment helps ease the Purging Process and allows the material to flow more smoothly. After increasing the die temperatures, the next step involves clearing any residual resin from the machine and ensuring that no contamination remains in the system. It's suggested to clean the hopper and feed throat thoroughly to maintain a steady flow of material during the Purging Process. When using UNICLEANPLUSTM Purging Compounds, it's necessary to select the appropriate mesh size and die clearance for optimal performance. For general grades of Purging Compounds, the screens and dies may remain in place during the Purging Procedure. If the system is heavily contaminated, it’s suggested to remove the screen pack and die to prevent clogging. After this, Purging should begin at a low screw velocity and can gradually increase once the material starts flowing from the head. During this process, stop the screw intermittently to allow the Purging Compound to rest for a few minutes before resuming at the highest safe screw velocity. Once the purge is free of impurities, it’s better to displace the remaining Purging Compound with the next processing resin, continuing with the same steps discussed above. In the end, it’s important to adjust system parameters back to the standard processing states and switch the screen with an uncontaminated one for smooth operation.

The Accumulator Blow Molding process is quite similar but includes some additional steps. Like Extrusion Blow Molding, increase the die temperatures by 55°F to 65°F and clear the system of residual resin. A clean hopper and feed throat are necessary to prevent blockages and ensure an efficient Purging Process. For accumulator systems, control the accumulator volume during the Purging Procedure. To purify the system, the Purging Compound should be used in stages—25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%. This unique approach effectively removes the impurities. With Extrusion Blow Molding, it’s necessary to monitor the process closely and ensure that the system is purged thoroughly before transitioning to the next resin.
