Twinwood Festival takes place in Bedfordshire on the historic site of RAF Twinwood, where legendary Swing band leader Glenn Miller famously took his last flight from in 1944, never to be seen again.
Nearly 20 years ago, the Twinwood Events team discovered the Twinwood Airfield Control Tower and took on the huge task of transforming it back to its original condition. Then in 2002, the newly restored and refurbished control tower was opened to the public by Beryl Davis, Glenn's wartime singer. To celebrate the end of the project, a Glenn Miller Concert was held there, which was the forerunner of the greatly successful Twinwood Festival we know today.
Over the years, thousands of people have visited the Control Tower to pay homage to this legendary musician and band leader, and it has become somewhat of a shrine to his fans from all around the world. The Control Tower now forms part of what is known as the Glenn Miller Museum, along with other themed exhibits in surrounding airfield buildings which are all open during the August festival.
Twinwood Festival itself is a huge celebration of all things vintage, from the 1920s, all the way through to the 1960s, with a focus on the music, dance and fashion of those decades gone by. The 4-day festival takes place annually over the August bank holiday, and incorporates 13 themed venues with over 100 live music performances, a huge vintage shopping village, and also includes free access to the Glenn Miller Museum and other historical exhibits.
