Spring allergies are common and can be hard to manage for outdoorsy types but allergist Dr. Sarita Patil of Massachusetts General Hospital’s Allergy Associates in Boston, said, “The keys are to be smart about allergen exposures and minimize them as much as possible.” The team at Tuvizo being avid fans of the outdoors know what it’s like to have allergies in Spring so they are encouraging their readers and customers to get outside regardless.
Some tips they gathered include getting to know when is the best time to go out and knowing pollen count. In the US alone, there are several dedicated institutes such as Tree Pollen Map and American Academy of Allergy Asthma & Immunology keeping tabs of such statistics online and in real time. They are accurate and have been regular part of weather reports during this season.
Allergy Associates founder Stephen Klemawesch said higher pollen levels are usually found in the morning peaking from within 5 to 10 in the morning. But most allergens are more prevalent on warm, dry, and windy days so they recommend going for a run or outdoor activity after rain or snowfall as this tempers tree pollen.
The most common preventive measure is taking antihistamines but for those who don’t want the side-effects, natural remedies such as quercetin and nettles used in teas are recommended by Denise Woods, owner of Advanced Allergy Solutions. Other preventive measures include wearing protective gear and rinsing clothes after outdoor use prior to washing.
