Wedding guest's bizarre invite causes outrage online

From the people who request special meals, to those who ask to bring an extra person days before your big day, your friends and family are sure to throw a curveball your way at the last minute.

However one guest was left seriously peeved off by an invitation she received from an old university friend to her wedding – which not only left her out of the main wedding day but also asked her to pay for her admission.

The woman took to group forum Mumsnet to ask others if her rage was justified or if she should just suck it up.

After receiving the invitation, the woman, who goes by the name Astella 22 on the site, said she decided to go, as she thought it would be nice to see her old friends and catch up.

“However I had lunch with a mutual acquaintance who insisted that the wedding was on Friday but mine had Saturday on it so naturally I was confused and double checked - it had Saturday so I just thought the other person must be wrong,” she wrote online.

When the day came, the woman got dressed up and went along to what she thought was the wedding with her plus one.

However when they got to the venue, she soon realised that she was actually at the celebration BBQ hosted the day after the wedding and was charged to enter.

“The real clincher I was informed (not asked) that the COST was €50pp to cover the BBQ and drinks from the beer fridge,” she wrote.

She silently paid, while being secretly full of rage inside and said she didn’t want to cause a fuss by kicking up.

“Nowhere on the invite did it say the wedding was the day before or that there would be a charge,” she wrote.

“I was driving and couldn't drink and my partner doesn't drink beer (he is a celiac).”

People were shocked at the invite and totally agreed with the woman’s anger at her friend.

“Charging admission to a reception? I've heard it all now,” one person said.

“I think that's absolutely outrageous,” another person said.

“I'd have turned on my heel and gone to the pub. The bloody cheek of it!,” she said.

The woman then explained further that she was already at the party and sitting down when another guest asked her if she had “paid the woman on reception yet?”.

People were furious with the couple, with many saying she should have turned on her heels and left.

“I probably would have made a statement about not budgeting for this and left. That is so rude,” one person said.

“I have literally never heard of anything so ridiculous! That's so bad!!!”
