Dr Rishi George and his wife Euphie Paul, celebrated their wedding on Monday, by being part of a motorcycle brigade that took them to their post-wedding party after the wedding ceremony at the Santa Cruz Basilica Church.

The groom riding his 1,811cc bike with the bride seated behind were accompanied by a superbike brigade consisting of nine bikes.

Rishi, who is part of the Kerala Riders Club consisting of 70 motorists having superbikes, had recently brought up the topic of doing something unique on his wedding day when he went on a superbike outing with a few club members.

"I was raised in Madhya Pradesh and most of the weddings that I witnessed there had a bharaat. So when we came up with this idea of having the superbike procession to the party, it was related to the things that I had seen while growing up. Interestingly, when I first went to meet Euphie, I was riding the same bike. She did not have a great impression about bikers then but a few months later she was a biker herself. One day she decided to ride the bike and she just did it. That was awesome," said Rishi, who will soon open his medical centre in Kochi.

"When the idea was first brought up, there was a lot of skepticism. The argument was that if it rains, it would create a mess. But we also wanted our wedding to capture a certain feeling and that was more important than anything else. So it did not matter if the dress was going to be wet in the rain or anything, we were going to have the ride on the motorbike," said Paul.

At 5.30pm, the engines of the superbikes started to rev within the resort next to the church. The bikes were stationed there so that bikers can get on their safety gear before the ride. The fleet of superbikes with engine capacity of over 600 cc consisted of foreign bikes such as Indian, Triumph and Ducati. Several people waited outside for half-an-hour to watch the bikes head out on the road.
