Amazon's quest to conquer the world continued Wednesday as it announced its entrance into the $300 billion wedding industry. Amazon is looking to make it easy for couples to get from "Yes" to "I do" with the introduction of The Wedding Shop, an online replacement for a wedding planner. The Wedding Shop, which will operate as part of Amazon Handmade, is set to compete with Etsy Inc (ETSY), the online shop specializing in handmade or vintage items. With shoppers already using Amazon for a vast range of wedding items, it made sense to bring it all under one umbrella. "We created the Handmade Wedding Shop with the savvy couple in mind. From rustic chic, to glitz and glam, the Wedding Shop is a one-stop destination for customers to discover a vast selection of customized products for their big day," said Katie Harnetiaux, of Handmade at Amazon.

"The ability to purchase products from local artisans on the Handmade Wedding Shop offers customers a boutique shopping experience coupled with the convenience and selection of Handmade at Amazon."

Popular items will include wedding invitations, decor, handmade jewelry to fashion accessories for the bride and groom, such as veils, ties, and hats. The recently revamped Amazon gift registry will become part of the Wedding Shop site where guests can purchase anything from favors to travel accessories.

The move by Amazon will have Etsy investors on watch. Many sellers on Etsy refused to list their items on Amazon Handmade when it first launched after complaints items were being mimicked and reproduced at a lower cost on Amazon. But with the introduction of Amazon's Wedding Shop, sellers may be forced to widen potential customers.

Whatever the success of the Wedding Shop, recently engaged couples will have no problem getting hold of Martha Stewart's Keepsake Wedding Planner for $20.10, or for those on a budget a used copy goes for $8.79.
