Tolga Kurtoglu applied to Carnegie Mellon University in 1999 and was eventually accepted to attend a Masters Program in Mechanical Engineering there. Carnegie Mellon University has a proven track record of success when it comes to producing individuals who are professional and ready to take on the real world. The fact that Carnegie Mellon University is located in the city of Pittsburgh was another big draw for Tolga Kurtoglu because there is a vibrant cultural life in that city.
Tolga Kurtoglu eventually became a big fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers National Football League team. Tolga Kurtoglu was very excited to have the opportunity to watch the Pittsburgh Steelers in person. While attending Carnegie Mellon University Tolga Kurtoglu attended many different Pittsburgh Steelers football games. The Pittsburgh Steelers are the most storied franchise in all of the National Football League. Football is one of Tolga Kurtoglu’s favorite sports, although he finds that he plays soccer more often, and often did so with his classmates at Carnegie Mellon University. One of the reasons that the Steelers are interesting to Tolga Kurtoglu, however, is that they draw their name from Pittsburgh’s historic steel industry.
Another important industry in Pittsburgh today is technology, a field fueled by the presence of Carnegie Mellon in the city. Tolga Kurtoglu was able to interact with people who worked at firms like Dell Computer, Google, and Intel while living in Pittsburgh, and those networking opportunities were very valuable to him.
In addition to attending Pittsburgh Steelers football games, Tolga Kurtoglu had many reasons for enjoying life in the city of Pittsburgh. Tolga Kurtoglu found living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to be refreshing and something that he truly enjoyed. It was a big change for him to move to Austin, Texas after graduating from Carnegie Mellon and he missed living in Pittsburgh very much.
