Vinod Shantilal Adani is the eldest member of the family. Despite facing hardships during his childhood, he inherited and nourished the values adhered to by his family.

Born into a Jain family from North Gujarat, Vinod Shantilal Adani is the eldest member of the family. Despite facing hardships during his childhood, he inherited and nourished the values adhered to by his family. These values continued to guide his actions in personal and professional life.

Staying true to his word is a value he adopted, nurtured and practiced to such an extent that today it is the first word that defines Vinodbhai Adani. If Vinodbhai has made a promise, it is like an inscription on stone that is bound to be fulfilled.

An incident that took place in Dubai highlights this value. During one of the regular trading transactions, a deal was finalized to provide scrap on a large scale. Such transactions mean Vinodbhai was responsible for buying scrap and delivering it to the buyer in his country via a number of hired carriers. There are many risks that can occur during such transactions. As one could fear, the market price rose unexpectedly. In order to execute the deal, Vinodbhai had to spend an exorbitant 50+ million dollars in order to purchase that scrap from the market and then supply to the buyer. But a promise is a promise. Goods were purchased and delivered in a timely manner as per the deal. This was just a verbal deal, but the promise was fulfilled. With time, the markets favoured Vinodbhai and after eight months of recession, he was able to overcome the loss.

Another attribute that is also greatly associated with Vinodbhai Adani is his ability to spot opportunities and capitalize upon them. After completing Masters in Engineering from USA, Vinodbhai, inspired by his father, started his own business in 1976 by setting up power looms in the name of V. R. Textile, in Bhivandi, Mumbai. The business had to flourish being driven by a postgraduate from an American University equipped with technical skills, fluent English and a natural ability to make new friends and deal with strangers. By 1989, the trading business added new commodities to its portfolio and expanded internationally by opening an office in Singapore. Vinodbhai moved to Singapore, being responsible for trading operations there and then moved to Dubai in 1994 for further expansion across Middle-Eastern countries.

At Dubai, Vinodbhai entered into new business ventures. He would buy thousands of tons of sugar and oil from the grain-producing countries and sell it to the countries in need. Sometimes, he bought Iron, Copper and Aluminium scrap.

Today, Vinodbhai, residing in Dubai, manages trading businesses in Dubai, Singapore and Jakarta.

Vinodbhai is fond of reading books and occupational journals; so is his wife Mrs. Ranjanben Adani, who also experiments with various types of exotic cuisines. She is also active in Jain social groups and women-oriented activities.

In 2006, the entire family had held a spire travel at Samit Shikhar. The travel, boarding, food, health, entertainment and satsang costs for 1200 people who accompanied them were sponsored by this family.

The family has donated crores of rupees without any need for recognition. They kept their word in business as well as in personal dealings. Vinodbhai and Ranjanben Adani are interested in Yoga. The ever-modest Vinodbhai Adani is always ready to understand the other person and help him/her accordingly.
