There is much history behind the different types of neck ties, and why men choose the colors that they choose when accentuating their outfits with neck ties. There are interesting facts behind what colors we choose, and they say a lot about a man and what he is feeling. What are you saying with your tie today?

Most people think that choosing what neck ties to wear should be taken lightly, but properly coordinating what type of tie to wear with what type of shirt isn't as easy as you might think. Interestly enough, there are many things that men should consider when putting their outfits together than you would think.

Color
The colors that you wear are a direct reflection of your personality and what you are feeling on any given day. This is also true with respect to the color of the tie that a man chooses when suiting up for the evening. While shirt color is important when choosing your tie color, some choose the color simply as a matter of personal preference. For example, men such as top executives who want to display power usually are prone to select the attention demanding power color of red for their ties, while more conservative men choose the calming color of blue. Pastel colors are more worn by men with more outgoing personalities and are more seasonly worn during summer months.

Sizes
Even though neckies are visibly worn atop a man's shirt, ties come in many different sizes, just like men are of all different shapes and sizes. If you are a tall man, wearing a standard sized tie could make them look overtly huge and awkward. In that instance, a taller man would want to choose a larger, longer tie. A thinner, shorter man would more appropriately want to wear a slimmer, shorter necktie that is more proportioned for his size.

Stripes
Are you aware of the history of striped neckties? Striped neckties became popular when soldiers wanted to show the measure in which they fought courageously as a badge of honor. Whereas today, they are more worn for fashion, their presence was born out of a contemporary period. Even though no longer worn as a badge of honor, striped ties should still be worn properly. If you select a striped tie, it should be worn atop a solid colored or plain shirt most commonly. In some instances, however, a striped tie can still be worn with a striped shirt, but there is a trick to this: the width of the stripes on the tie should contrast with the width of the stripes on the shirt.

Patterned
There are many different facets of patterned ties. The come in a variety of prints of shapes, motifs, emblems, or paisleys, In selecting a patterned necktie, one should be sure to choose a tie witha design that goes in in conjuction with the function or occasion. If a man is going to a business function, he should select a tie that is more conservative or less flashy.

Festive
Bow ties, black ties or neckties that are conservative in color should be set aside for more festive or formal occasions like weddings or banquets and formal dinner parties. Solid black or silver colored ties are the most commonly chosen in those instances.
