Orthodontic retainers are basically devices usually made of wires or clear plastic in order to hold teeth in position after certain major surgeries. After the completion of this orthodontic treatment, yet the risk of relapse is not over or in other words the teeth may again return to its original position. This happens due to the following factors:
• Recoiling of the periodontal fibers.
• Pressure on the soft tissues of the teeth thus affecting the new position to the teeth after surgery.
• Patients with continued growth and development.
Thus, these Orthodontic Retainer Cases can be used to hold the teeth at its position for a long period of time as it allows adapting the changes in the bone of the teeth and minimizes the chances of further displacement of the teeth from its new position.
Orthodontic retainer cases are of two types: removable or fixed.
• Removable retainers: They play a vital role in your treatment. They hold the teeth in the position where the teeth are being newly placed after the surgery. Teeth always have a natural tendency to oscillate from its position, thus these retainers are very useful in such situations.
• Fixed retainer: These consist of thin stainless steel wire that is placed permanently behind the front teeth. These retainers can be removed using a dental drill, then clean and polish the teeth.
Among them, the prescribed retainers by the orthodontists are Hawley, invisible and bonded. Hawley retainers cost around $150 to $300 which is made of hard acrylic which can be molded to the child’s teeth. Invisible retainers cost around $150 to $300 to fix both sets of teeth.
Bonded retainers: It is a thin piece of wire attached at the back of the teeth. It is invisible when a person smiles, but he/she will be able to feel it under his/her teeth which are a little sensation.
The safe product recommended by the orthodontists for the safeguard of the denture model is the Model Boxes. These models are much more expensive but it is safe to store the dentures while you are sleeping or taking rest. Different colorful denture boxes are there which comprises of sufficient space to hold one to two dentures. The denture boxes have form filters to support the denture models during transportation. These Model Boxes are made of heavy plastic to provide excellent protection. Each box comprises of four separate compartments and identification labels for an ideal organization.
