In 2012 there was $950 million in unclaimed tax refunds. The IRS each year has millions and millions of dollars in refund which is never claimed due to unfiled taxes.
Many taxpayer don't yet understand even if their income level does not require them to file a return, the IRS may still owe the taxpayer a refund due to the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) which is awarded to low wage earners.
C. Ingram, a Registered Tax Return Preparer with Taxes Will Travel has set up an online tax service using the eBay platform to prepare taxes from previous years.
"A tax return can be prepared in as little as 48 hours once all the information is provided," says Ingram. "Most taxpayers lose their W2s or 1099=MISC information and must contact the IRS to obtain this information before the return can be completed."
The online service explains how taxpayers can get the necessary information to file a correct return, a return which will match the IRS's records thereby decreasing the possibility of an audit.
To collect refunds a return must be filed with the IRS no later than three years from the due date of the return. If no return is filed during the three year window, the monies becomes the property of the U.S. Treasury. The really good news is there's no penalty for filing a late return to qualify for the refund.
Low wage earners who are single moms are especially encouraged to file past due returns, regardless of how little money they earned or how much was withheld for Federal taxes on payroll checks.
"Taxpayers who need to file unfiled tax returns can visit the virtual office on eBay http://goo.gl/eXeGUQ and start the process immediately. Fees are affordable and adjustable," says Ingram
