How to Find Fulfilment in Remote Work?

We are getting used to the new normal, but does that provide fulfillment?

Most of us have been working remotely for almost a year now. How do you feel about that? While some people feel they can get a lot more done from home, many professionals find remote work challenging. We are getting used to the new normal, but does that provide fulfillment?

If you don’t feel fulfilled working from home, it can make you dread work, even if it means moving from the kitchen to your home office. No one should have to dread getting to work.
Here are three incredible tips to feel fulfilled in the remote work environment.

What are your values?

You may feel a lack of fulfillment because of not honoring your core values. Spend some time to identify your top three core values, with respect to your career.

If you aren’t sure what your values are, take some time to discover them. For example, what do you disapprove of? What are the opposites of those things? Once you know your values, think how you can honor your values while working from home. Set simple goals to get started this week itself.

What tasks do you enjoy?

Being good at a task doesn’t necessarily mean you enjoy it.

Check what aspects of remote working you enjoy? Once you have identified that, check if you can make some changes to your workflow to find greater fulfillment. Would you like to start your day or week with the what you enjoy or would you rather finish the week with them?

If necessary, discuss your workflow with your boss and create a different schedule.

How can you challenge yourself?

When you are doing the same tasks repeatedly, almost on autopilot, it can cause burnout, boredom and eventually, job dissatisfaction. Ask yourself how you can challenge yourself on a regular basis while working from home.

For example, you can volunteer to work on a project that you otherwise wouldn’t work on or take an online course to learn a new skill. You may even try learning something new that isn’t related to your current job at all! Consider a hobby class. Sometimes, doing something different is not only refreshing, it can help you discover new ways of doing things which you may be able to incorporate, or draw inspiration from, in your current work.

If you still aren’t feeling fulfilled with remote work or your career, you may need to talk to a career or life coach to identify your goals, create a vision for the life you want, design an action plan and start working towards it.
