A form of carbohydrate food, sugar can be obtained from multiple sources, primarily from sugarcane and sugar beet. While the sugar derived from sugarcane and sugar beet is naturally and obtained from the plant tissues, it is quite different from the form in which it is present in the market. To convert sugar into an easily consumable product that can be used for everyday purposes, specific sugar chemicals are required. These chemicals help to transform the sugar from its original form into solid sugar crystals. To do this, sugar companies need to collaborate with multiple chemical companies in India that provide the required materials.

In this article, we will go over the different types of chemicals that often used in the sugar processing industry.

A Potent Sugar Mill Sanitation Biocide - SH-401

SH-401, a biocide, is primarily used to prevent bacteria and fungi from causing damage to the sugarcane in the mills. A carbamate-based micro biocide, SH-401 is ideally generated to inhibit the growth of fungi and bacteria. Due to this reason, this biocide is extremely effective against the acid-producing bacteria and fungi that are usually present in sugar mills. By preventing the growth of fungi and bacteria, this chemical also increases the recovery rate from stored sugar deposits. Moreover, SH-401 is also commonly used during and between the cane crushing and lime neutralization stages to inhibit enzyme action.
A Strong Anti-Scaling Agent - Maxtreat-4000

Comprising of multiple components, Maxtreat-4000 is a liquid chemical that is produced specially to prevent the formation of scales in sugarcane juice evaporators and vacuum pans. Moreover, the chemical is also used as a solution to excessive deposition and to keep the heat transfer surfaces clean. The reason why this potent anti-scaling agent is popular and effective with preventing the formation of scales is due to its sequestering agent that maintains the levels of magnesium and calcium as is standard in most water-soluble complexes. The quantity of usage for this chemical is entirely dependant on the nature of the scale-forming compounds that are present in the solution used.

Flocculants - Canefloc

A strong coagulant, Canefloc is a chemical that is commonly used in sugar factories to separate the suspended solid particles present in the sugar juice. This chemical is ideally used in both sugar juice clarifiers and during the process of sugar mud filtration. Acting as a flocculant, Canefloc is a highly charged density anionic polymer that promotes flocculation of the suspended matter, which creates dense and flocs that settle easily. This helps to reduce the volume of mud present in the sugar juices, and the presence of any other solid particles can be easily detected and filtered out.

To provide safe-to-consume and easily usable sugar, the use of chemicals in sugar mills is inevitable. Thermax is one such chemical company in India that provides a host of various chemicals that are crucial in the sugar production industry.
