Demineralised water is free from salts and minerals and has a number of applications in diverse industries.

Following are some major industries where demineralised water finds important uses:

1.Refineries

Refineries use high-pressure boilers that run on demineralised water. Such boilers need water that has a low level of contaminants. Processes like softening may not be enough in high-pressure boilers and can damage this precious equipment.

2.Power Plants

Boilers need high-quality water for steam generation and regular running. Demineralised water is the best for this purpose. Steam is produced in boilers which makes water particles collect and condense. These particles are then recycled and used as part of the boiler’s water feed. Even though water goes through condensation during the steam-making process dissolved oxygen and carbon dioxide may still be present in the condensate. The presence of these gases could lead to harmful chemical reactions that bring about damage in the form of corrosion to the boiler and its other parts. When water purification systems demineralise water, such gases are removed, ensuring the safety and longevity of the boiler.

3.Food and Beverage

Water after demineralisation is used to sanitize equipment and containers. In the food and beverage industry it is used for a number of food processing applications to remove bacteria and viruses from organic material. The number of regulations in the food and beverage industry along with the standards of regulation demand usage of high-quality water, making demineralised water an important part of the overall treatment process.

4.Petrochemical

Cooling tower blowdowns are common in the petrochemical and chemical industry. Water from the blowdown needs to be discharged. In an industry where water availability is scarce and the sewer connection fees are higher using a demineralised water system is the optimal solution. It is a cost-effective solution which helps cut down on sewer connection expenses.

5.Pharmaceutical and Cosmetics

The manufacturing of pharmaceutical products and cosmetics require strict quality and safety controls. In this industry there are a number of methods to produce demineralised water such as reverse osmosis and deionization.

Demineralised water is also used for lab applications and testing, laser cutting, manufacturing computer chips and other electronics, in aquariums, and for fire extinguishers. To get the best quality demineralised water for your facility it is essential that you use only the best water purification systems.
