AMD or Advanced Micro Devices is a company that has been manufacturing semiconductors, microchips, CPUs, motherboards and other types of computer equipment for 40 years. This makes them the second largest company in this sector after Intel.
Intel or Intel Corporation was founded a year earlier, in 1968. Both companies were incorporated in Valley, USA and are leaders in research and development in this field. These multinationals are also known for developing manufacturing bases in Asia, such as in Taiwan, China, Malaysia and Singapore. However, its products are said to be in use in all countries where PCs are used.
Both AMD and Intel make motherboards, which are the circuitry at the base of all personal computers. AMD and Intel also make CPU or Central Processing Unit chips for personal computers. Although both operate in the same industry, they constantly compete with each other for market share and technological changes.
intel
Intel's product line consists of:
Microprocessors: The Pentium, Celeron and Core series. The latest innovations include the Core i7-980X Extreme Edition with 6 physical and 12 logical cores. Servers: Intel has chipsets, motherboards, software, memory, and many other solutions for servers.
Motherboards: Intel Server Series and Intel Workstation Series for servers and the Intel Desktop Board for desktops. Other: Intel also makes a lot of hardware and software for storage and communications solutions for desktop and notebook computers.
amd
Microprocessors: The Athlon variant, X2, K10, X2, AMD Opteron.
Servers: Opteron processors are also available for servers.
Motherboards: The AMD Crossfire series is available in this lineup along with many others.
Miscellaneous: AMD recently acquired a leading graphics card maker and promises more advanced video capabilities coded into new versions of its motherboards. It also offers enterprise software and storage solutions.
Costs
AMD is said to offer the same base product at a cheaper price than Intel. Intel is establishing itself as the leader in the production of motherboards and processor chips for PCs, and its pricing and development have influenced AMD from the start. AMD produced "clones" of Intel products, as well as its own development line of chips and motherboards. The AMD Athlon XP processor works similarly to an Intel 4 processor and is about half the price. Below are some price comparisons of similar products from the two companies:
