ATLANTA, GA – June 20, 2025 – The Atlanta Tantra Festival, recognized as the world's
premier Black-centered celebration of erotic embodiment and somatic healing, announces its
highly anticipated return to Atlanta for Labor Day Weekend 2025 after six transformative years
of international programming across Mexico and Costa Rica.
Founded in 2017 by renowned somatic sexologist and author Amina Peterson, the festival was
born as "an act of revolution" – creating space for Black women, people of color, and allies to
experience vulnerability, sensuality, and healing in an environment that affirms their existence
and celebrates their erotic power.
"Seven years ago, I launched this festival because every tantra event I attended had the
same aesthetic – white and old," says Peterson, founder of The Amina Institute for
Embodiment & Healing. "We built something different: a space full of love, sensual energy,
and connection that centers Black women and creates safety for everyone to experience
their most erotic selves."
A Revolutionary Homecoming
The 2025 festival, themed "Homecoming," represents more than a return to Atlanta – it's a
reclamation of ancestral wisdom and erotic birthright. Drawing inspiration from Audre Lorde's
teachings on the erotic as life force, this year's programming focuses on somatic sexuality,
authentic consent, and the revolutionary act of pleasure as liberation.
Festival Highlights Include:
● EroSomatic and erotic embodiment workshops
● Authentic consent and boundary-setting practice and play
● Erotic touch, cuddling and BDSM demonstrations and training
● Sensual movement and dance experiences
● Intimate partner communication and expression workshops
● Black joy and pleasure activism sessions
Impact and Community
Since its inception, the Atlanta Tantra Festival has:
● Served over 800 participants across seven years
● Featured ONLY Black thought leaders and practitioners of color as presenters
● Created a global community of practitioners committed to erotic liberation
● Influenced the broader tantra and sacred sexuality movement toward inclusivity
"When the Black woman is liberated, all will be free," Peterson emphasizes. "This festival
isn't just about pleasure – it's about dismantling systems of oppression through the
radical act of claiming our erotic power."
