Tatum Sherman has helped many professionals find employment through her employment firm, a resource she explains in detail here.

Tatum Sherman started her business, Resource Referral, in order to help companies and professionals connect. While many skilled professionals are seeking steady work, some are not aware of resources available to them such as employment firms. That is why Sherman and others in employment staffing are helping to spread awareness about this useful resource.

By definition, an employment agency is an organization that matches employers to employees. These agencies can be both private and public. Public employment agencies have been around for a long time. In fact, in the 1600s, a man named Henry Robinson proposed what he called an “Office of Addresses and Encounters”. The point of this agency was to link employers to workers. Since the 20th century, developing countries have created a public employment agency to help keep unemployment numbers down. Public employment agencies are government funded, and built by and for the people. Sometimes however, they do not function well due to problems with budgeting and/or political policy. That is why there are also a number of private employment firms.

Private employment firms were established to keep the politics out of business resourcing. The first private employment agency was opened in the United States by a man named Fred Winslow. Another agency was developed by Katharine Felton to combat unemployment issues brought on by a San Francisco earthquake in the early 1900s. There was a time when private employment firms were considered illegal. For many years the legislation on the legality of private employment agencies were disputed. Eventually all of the legislation outlawing private employment firms were abolished.

The new, legal private employment firms were subject to government scrutiny, and had to follow specific guidelines in order to stay legal. Once the controversy was settled, many new private employment firms popped up, ones that worked at the basest levels of employment, to the highest executive positions.

Tatum Sherman started her private employment firm, Resource Referral to help link professionals with companies. She enjoys helping others connect. Her efforts have helped decrease the unemployment rate and stimulate the economy. Mrs. Sherman’s business helps employ thousands of people a year.
