Apart of the Serengeti ecosystem, the Ngorongoro conservation area adjoins the Serengenti National park and extends into the unprotected Loliondo division which is kept open to wildlife through trans-human pastoralist practiced by the Maasai. The south and west the NCA is well defined with volcanic highlands to include the known Ngorongoro crater and the lesser known Empakaai. The east and south east boundaries are defined by the rim of the Great Rift Valley wall that prevents animals from migrating in the eastern direction. Also referred to as the eighth wonder of the world the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in northern Tanzania boasts a mixture of wildlife, landscapes, people and archaeology that is unrivaled in Africa. The grasslands, volcanoes, waterfalls and mountain forests house an abundant number of people (the Masai) and animals.

NCA is a home to a number of wildlife to include the Big 5 (the most searched animals in the world). It has a population of over 25,000 large animals, with the highest being ungulates, and the highest number of mammal predators in Africa. The park has ungulates like the wildebeests, the zebras, grant and Thomson's gazelles, elands to mention. Large mammals include Lions, leopards, reedbucks, elephants and buffaloes.
