This is why surveyors who have a responsibility for locating and identifying underground services before any work is started need to be fully trained in the arts of so doing, and in the use of the equipment that is used. The company runs a CAT course providing CAT training which is based on the practical manufacturing experience of building CATs and Gennys, rather than knowledge acquired simply through the use of them, and so is uniquely qualified to train operatives as it has understanding of every aspect of the abilities and limitations of the equipment. In short, while their trainers know what the equipment can do, they also have an unrivalled knowledge of what it can’t do, and therefore the errors that can creep in if a surveyor is not completely aware of them.

The company’s CAT and Genny course is approved by The Survey Association, the CSCS, and the EUSR, among other organisations. Courses range from one day CATSCAN training to a full five-day course which includes working on site using the equipment and finishes with an exam in which attendees must obtain a minimum figure in order to qualify for a pass. The courses can either be carried out at the company’s premises in Wigan or on any other site in the UK of the clients choosing.
