That’s why we’re going to take advantage of all that good knowledge and share with you the top 5 things professional makeup artists want you to stop doing, like RIGHT NOW. And don’t be offended; this is meant to help us all, because we’ve all been guilty of at least one or two of these things before.

1. Don’t try any new trends or looks when you’re in a rush. We’ve all been guilty of this one; trying a brand new smoky eye or winged eyeliner look when we have five extra minutes to spare, but makeup artists warn against it. It usually doesn’t turn out well on the first pass and then those beloved extra five minutes turn into 15 minutes late!

2. Stop doing your makeup in bad lighting. If you need to invest in good lighting in your bathroom or even create a little makeup and beauty space close to a window with natural light, DO THAT. Bad lighting can make it easy for you to apply way too much makeup and then you end up super awkward and embarrassed once you meet up with friends with different lighting. Check your lighting ladies!

3. Take time for your eyebrows. The trick with eyebrows is making sure they don’t take away from your beautiful makeup look, so don’t forget to actually spend time on them. But don’t define them like crazy and then wear zero makeup. If you’re not good at penciling in or defining your brows, this root and brow airbrush cover will help you become a pro in no time! And if you’re using an eyebrow pencil, start out light and be careful not to over-define. Remember, you can always add more if it needs it.

4. Don’t overdo your look, especially if you’re not a pro at the makeup game. Just because makeup artists might use 25 different products, brands and colors on you doesn’t mean you should do the same to yourself. Less is more when you’re trying to create a natural look and adding too many colors or products to your look could go disastrously wrong, especially if you don’t know what you’re doing.

5. Stop neglecting your skin! Makeup artists aren’t there to cover up crazy imperfections, they are there to help bring out your natural beauty. The better care you take of your skin, the better “canvas” they have to work with. Make sure you’re washing your face every morning and night, using an anti-aging moisturizer and wearing sunscreen on the regular. This way you can spend more time highlighting your cheekbones instead of covering up those pimples.
