Baltimore, MD ---- Congress has passed new rules and regulations regarding mortgage lending and other consumer issues that may well prove to be a complicated maze for businesses to navigate. As a result, the law firm of Offit Kurman, which already has a thriving Financial Institutions Compliance Practice Group and has recently launched C3 Compliance Consultants, Inc. (C3CC), has hired Barton Shapiro as a principal in its Financial Institutions Compliance Practice. C3CC founder and director Ari Karen, who is also an attorney and principal at Offit Kurman, commented “Bart’s addition provides our clients with a unique insight into the regulatory agencies and new rules most impacting our clients on a daily basis.”

In addition to his role as a principal at Offit Kurman, Mr. Shapiro will help spearhead
C3CC. Mr. Shapiro is highly regarded as one of the foremost authorities on the Dodd Frank Act and other consumer protection laws. He joins Offit Kurman from his former position as a senior advisor for community banks and credit unions to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). In addition, he served as Director of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Office of RESPA and Interstate Land Sales. Mr. Shapiro is based in the firm’s Washington, DC area office that is in Bethesda, Maryland.

Ms. Wolf's practice focuses on regulated financial services with an emphasis on consumer credit, residential lending, and brokering and debt management. She advises clients regarding multi-jurisdictional compliance and federal consumer finance laws and regulations. Ms. Casseres’ practice focuses on laws and regulations governing mortgage lenders, mortgage brokers, financial institutions, and consumer finance companies.
