If you thought jumping off a cliff was going to make your heart race, wait till you see these people risk life and limb as they leap off some of the tallest in buildings and cliff sides to experience the best in base jumping.

BASE is an acronym for Building, Antenna, Span and Earth, where building refers to manmade structures; antenna describes uninhabited structures like oil wells and antenna masts; spans refers to structures that span a space like bridges; and Earth refers to natural structures like ridges and cliffs. From some of these areas, jumpers jump in BASE jumping with only a parachute.

BASE jumping has been in existence for quite a long time. During that time, BASE jumping was more the stunt aspect than competition. Nevertheless, in the late 1970s things changed and BASE jumping was termed by Carl Boenish, who died during BASE jumping in 1984.

Nonetheless, BASE jumping enthusiasts ensure they follow the basic rules and assess their gear thoroughly.

It is essential before attempting BASE jumping, to inspect the parachute. The jumps are normally performed from low altitudes and that's why parachutes made to open quickly should be properly used. In addition, falling speed is low so the parachute also needs to be designed to open and deploy at speeds that are low. There are special BASE jumping parachutes accessible and only those should be used by you.

You must even be conversant with how to employ a parachute. You must understand just how to install a parachute, when to deploy it and just how to land with a parachute. For this you'll need to practice and a lot of experts suggest attempting skydiving to master the art of managing parachutes.

If you have the nerves, bASE jumping is fun and exciting sport. Nevertheless, be sure to learn all the nitty-gritties of the sport before attempting a jump.
