Scarlett Kicks Off 2023 With The Great Coquilles Saint-Jacques Scallops

Bangkok, Jan 2023 - To the French, they may just be precious scallops - but to the rest of the world, the Coquilles Saint-Jacques are a highly coveted delicacy renowned for their briny, sweet taste and tender texture that’s akin to butter.

 
Also known as the Great Scallop or the King Scallop, these molluscs are identified by their large, flat shell and often enjoyed on their own or with light, indulgent sauces.

For the months of January and February, Scarlett Bangkok brings them fresh from the bays of Normandy to discerning gourmands and seafood lovers with a special Coquilles Saint-Jacques menu. The Norman scallops are prepared in four different variations - ranging from fresh to seared, with each dish promising to bring out the very best in this French classic.


Have It Four Ways

To start, open your meal with a plate of Ceviche de Saint-Jacques - where you get to experience these scallops in their delicious glory. Should you prefer a warmer and more savoury option, the Saint-Jacques Lutée is a classic French dish where the scallops get served in a precious shell of puff pastry.


If you’d like to try the scallops in the most luxurious way possible, the Saint-Jacques à la Truffe is a duo of scallops served with delicate slices of truffle. For a more rustic touch, opt for the Saint-Jacques à la Plancha, where the scallops are cooked to perfection on a hot plancha for a delicate, almost smoky crust on the top which contrasts perfectly with its natural sweetness.


Pair It Up

Of course, it’s not enough simply to savour these coveted scallops on their own. Scarlett Bangkok has curated a delightful wine pairing to be paired with the scallops – the aromatic and tropical Alsace Domaine Zind Humbrecht Gewürztraminer 2018, the juicy and oaky Pouilly Fuisse Maison Verget “Terroirs de V” 2017; and if you’re feeling rather bold - the smooth and savoury Domaine Fontaine Gagnard Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens 2016.
