Suhel Seth on the Bliss of Living Single

Posted July 1, 2020 by SuhelSeth

Suhel Seth, founder and managing partner of Counselage- a consultancy firm adorns many different hats with panache.

He is a columnist, an actor, a TV pundit, and a keynote speaker. He is known for his bold personality and lively aura. Not only is he good at socializing but has also interviewed many different personalities. His books give some useful insights and tips for one to take advantage of. Talking about singlehood and its many perks, he says when you live single- your home resembles a Zen shrine. There’s peace in every corner of your house- no screeching, no wailing, etc. He believes that when you are single and you wake up in the morning, there’s the sweet chirping of birds to kick start your morning, not some devilish voice enquiring about the time you got back last night or reminding you to wish your mom’s second cousin because it’s her anniversary.

He says that single men are more relaxed and calm. According to him, if single men were filmed sleeping, there would be a smile on their face, not a scowl. They are always happier than their married counterparts. He says that single men are also more lenient in terms of domestic help and treat their helpers with calm. They don’t ask what’s being cooked for lunch or whether their lunch has been packed but rather go with the flow. A single man’s home is distinctive and they buy books that they actually like to read not because someone recommended it to them at some dinner party. Their coffee-table books are also utilized to gain knowledge and not just as coasters for the coffee. Their music is what soothes them in actual sense and not something they heard at a party.

Talking about a single man’s pursuits he says single men celebrate art and their homes are a reflection of their interests. While married men leave the task of buying art to their wives, single men go after genuine art that touches their heart and not something that was a hot topic of discussion at some silly art summit. Single men party hard and their lives are always exciting. They know how to mix in the crowds and they are always surrounded by more single women than any married man because there is no wife to judge or complain.

Single men, according to Suhel are blessed with freedom and can have the food they like all year round. Their parties are more about having a good time than comparing incomes. He says single men are always the first ones to encourage dancing at parties and sometimes the purpose is to enjoy the discomfort of married men who have no other option but to dance with their wives. He says single men are not judgmental because they don’t have the time for silly gossip. They are the actual souls of the party and they dance like no one’s watching. They don’t care about the world because they know that at the end of the day they will be greeted by a tired chauffeur and not a devilish disapproving voice.

Suhel is fond of the type of life that singlehood promises and considers it as a bliss.
