Rotary Youth Exchange focuses on building peace one young student at a time. Through Rotary Clubs in more than 100 countries, it organizes sponsored high school study programs abroad. These sponsored foreign exchange programs are available for youngsters aged 14 to 19 years. Exchange students get interesting opportunities to unlock their true potential and develop lifelong leadership skills, as well as to learn a new language and discover a new culture. Rotary Youth Exchange, through its foreign exchange study programs, also helps students in building lasting friendships with young people from around the world.

At a recently held young students’ meet, the spokesperson of Rotary Youth Exchange shared, “We help students in becoming global citizens. Our long-term exchanges last a full academic year, and students attend local schools and live with multiple host families. On the other hand, short-term exchanges last from several days to three months, and these programs are often structured as camps, tours, or homestays that take place when the school is not in session. We provide students with a room and board, as well as any school fees.”

Rotary Youth Exchange offers its flagship study abroad program for high school students. In this program, their experience begins the year before going to study abroad, as students go through the application, selection and preparation process. During their academic year abroad, they live with as many as three or four carefully selected and trained host families, study at a local high school, and become proficient in a new language. This immersion program helps them to become bicultural and bilingual, and forever change their perspective of the world.

The spokesperson also revealed, “As part of our sponsored programs, we also give a chance to those students who want to put meaning into their gap year. Our gap year program is designed primarily for current high school students, but we do have a limited number of opportunities for students to participate in the program after graduation from a US or Canadian high school. This program is a wonderful option for those gap year students who have not lost their hope of pursuing a high school study abroad program.”

For its study abroad programs for high school students, Rotary Youth Exchange prefers young people who are leaders in their schools and communities. The sponsor also makes it incredibly rewarding for families that host an exchange student. While the host families provide rooms and boards to students, they also share their lives with exchange students, involving them in family, community, and cultural activities.
