Rotary International Offers Scholarship Programs

Rotary International allows students to choose from a short-term exchange programin the summer, a full academic year of high school or a gap year.

 
Rotary International was founded in 1905 with a mission to bring together leaders to exchange ideas and take action to help empower with, enhance health, promote peace, and eradicate polio. The Rotary Study Abroad Program is a scholarship program tailor-made for high school students who dream of studying abroad as foreign exchange students. Rotary clubs sponsor exchanges for students who are 15 to 19 years old in more than 100 countries.Exchange students unlock their real potential to develop lifelong leadership skills, learn a new language and culture, build lasting friendships with young people from around the world, and also become a global citizen. Rotary Internationalis under NAYEN (North American Youth Exchange Network). NAYEN is a non-profit organization representing 167 districts, in Canada, Mexico and the United States, which are involved in Rotary Youth Exchange Programs.

“Hosting an exchange student can be incredibly rewarding for your family; bringing an international experience directly into your home. Host families provide room and boarding facilities to the exchange students. They also share their lives with exchange students, involving them in family, community, and cultural activities. All host families are screened and trained. If you're interested in learning more about being a host family, contact a Rotary club near you,” said Chanele Williams, a Consultant.

NAYEN supports its members through training materials to support their district programs.The Study Abroad Scholarship includes hosting by foreign Rotary Club on a space available, 24-hour worldwide emergency assistance throughout the application, secondary travel and medical insurance, accident, ill health, repatriation and third-party liability Pre-departure and some in-country orientations. Long-term student exchanges last a full academic year, and students attend local schools and live with multiple host families. Short-term youth exchange programs last from several days to three months and occur as camps, tours, or home stays that take place when school is not in session. The program creates candidates who are 15-19 years old and are leaders in their schools and communities. “The Youth Exchange Program does not include the following costs program fee which varies depending on each Rotary district, primary insurance for travel and medical, accident, ill health, repatriation,and additional coverage against third-party liability, airfare (transportation), passport and visa application fees, and other travel costs. Students in this program learn a new language, discover another culture, and truly become global citizens,” said a Coordinating Officer.

Rotary International presents the cheapest study abroad programs in the market. The program provides rooms and boarding facilities, as well as any school fees. Each program varies, but students are usually responsible for round-trip airfare, travel insurance, travel documents such as passports and visas, spending money and any additional travel or tours.
