Protests and Demonstrations can Lead to an Awakening of Greater Civic Responsibility

Citizen's commissions may be a way to bring police practices to a more just and fair norm of behavior.

Given the protests in many states, and the Tampa Bay area of Florida, the authorities are looking for real solutions. How do we get an active and organized participation of the civic community in monitoring and correcting  the actions of the police?  The Mayor of the City of Tampa has proposed to improve the development of the city Police. She wants to have ordinary citizens contribute more through the restructuring of a citizens commission. It would partially observe how the police develope cases and  manage and apply justice. This in essence requires the active participation of citizens in collaboration with police to see what things are successful.  It would be like an external and impartial quality control. This would demand that the inhabitants of the city raise their level of responsibility with respect to the law and justice applied in it.  Which brings us to Human Rights number, “7. We’re All Equal before the Law. All are equal before the law and are entitled without any discrimination to equal protection of the law. All are entitled to equal protection against any discrimination in violation of this Declaration and against any incitement to such discrimination.”“Human rights must be a reality, not an idealistic dream." L. Ron Hubbard.
