Joy In Day to Day Competence In the Time of Coronavirus

Posted August 8, 2020 by stilsonlewis

The pleasure of doing simple things well is rewarding at any time, but especially in this time of Coronavirus.

There is pleasure in doing things well. Even simple daily chores, when done well, rise to the level of craft. Too often we overlook the common beauty of the everyday, and the competence it takes to create our environment. Washing windows can really transform a space. When windows are sparkling clean and clear the effect is dazzling. There is a technique and level of competent application to achieve smudge free, streak free windows. It is well worth the effort.

We seem to think skill and knowledge should just exist as a matter of course, but in truth it needs to be studied and gained. From a car mechanic, who might truly hold our lives in his hands, to
a florist who is creating beautiful surroundings for the most important moment of a daughter's life, skill and application are necessary. It takes time and intention to learn these skills. It takes doing and doing and doing again to develop mastery. It is worth the investment, in the pleasure of doing and the quality of product produced. "In common pursuits and activities ,man respects skill and abilities.", L. Ron Hubbard. During this time of Coronavirus, competence in the everyday is a gift we can give ourselves and others. www.thewaytohappiness.org @waytohappinesstampa
