Yesterday was Inauguration Day in the United States of America. There was a transfer of power from one administration of government to the next. This year, mostly because of Coronavirus, there were no throngs of people on the National Mall, that beautiful stretch of land that sweeps from the Capital Building to the Washington Monument.  Behind the Washington Monument is the Reflecting Pool, another long rectangle that reaches back to the Lincoln Memorial. These are iconic sites in America, for what the symbols represent, as well as for how they have benn used by our leaders during our brief history. As a distinct country, the USA is young. The representative democracy that was born here after the Revolutionary War, which continues to be formed and reformed as we continue carving our way through time, bears the marks of our Presidents, the heads of the Executive Branch. Yesterday a new President was sworn into office. He has been a goog enough leader to get elected, let us hope he is a good executive.
This design of government, has power shared out into three branches with the purpose of balance.  The idea is to have the voting population remain the source of the actual power of government.  Other aspects of the structure are to ensure that each individual state retains a fair amount of autonomy. This American experiment, as de Tocqueville called it, contains the basis for the evolution of a country.  Ideas can always be asserted and discussed. This is supposed to keep us from war. In The Way to Happiness, L. Ron Hubbard says, "Support a government designed and run for all the people."  We are trying to do that.  www.thewaytohappiness.org
