Human Trafficking is a Major Human Rights Violation

This is where an education in human rights can be of great value. This can help unmake a victim, by giving them the information that they are important as a person, and that they have specific rights.

Knowledge just is. It is the use of knowledge that is either good or evil. Information is just pieces of data. It, too, is not good or evil of itself. It is the decision about, and the application of this information that creates good or evil in our world. It takes action. There was a survey done a few years ago to find out who are the most hated villains. It was found to be those who prey on
children. This is no surprise, since as individual people most of us want to protect children, even if they are not our own. How can just having this knowledge be used for harm? Well, since this is the oddest year in recent history, this knowledge has been politicised. Just, really. If you want to discredit someone you can just enter made up stories that the person is a pedophile or has participated in the trafficking of children, into the stream of chat on any or several social media platforms. This gets at least some of the people wondering if it really is true. Having heightened
the fear factor that children are at risk, moms and dads who see children playing alone or who see new kids in a neighborhood call the human trafficking hot line. This is meant to help. But it can be a false alert, and right now it often is. This camouflages the instances that are real. Those calling in are most likely trying to help. Those sowing fear, are not.

The trafficking of children and women is most often done by someone who is known and trusted. There is psychological manipulation involved, and often the victims feel like they have no status, and no standing from which to fight back. This is where an education in human rights can be of great value. This can help unmake a victim, by giving them the information that they are
important as a person, and that they have specific rights. A person who is truly educated in human rights will find it more difficult to treat another as property, or without dignity. Knowledge in this case is being used for the good. "Human rights must be made a reality, not just an idealistic dream.", L. Ron Hubbard. www.humanrights.org 2humanrightstampa
