How to Fix Burnt Toast or Why Parents or Guardians

Honor those who have invested all kinds of resources in your future. Love, time and patience count as resources.

In the United States we set aside a Sunday in May and a Sunday in June to honor our parents. For most of us these are not big fancey holidays, and they are usually not serious. Often just coffee or breakfast in bed for the Mother, on her Sunday in May, and maybe the same for Dad on his June Sunday. These can be accompanied by small gifts made by the children at school, or sometimes just handmade cards. All this, when made with love and given from the heart, will be treasured by most parents, and often these are the gifts that are kept in special places for years.

Then there are the situations that are outside this picture. Some are very extreme and some are sad. Some, though, are examples of people finding each other in life and fulfilling the places in the hearts and souls of one another when the actual child or parent is not available. These can be very close and influential relationships even if they appear casual from the outside. We usually look at how the elder helps the younger person, but there is an exchange that takes place. We all need people that we help, and that we know we help. This gives life meaning.and its own kind of purpose, for the younger and for the older person. It is, though, the greater responsibility that falls on the shoulders of the adult, to help the young person prepare for creating a life. Sounds fancy, but is also as simple as teaching a child how to fix burnt toast.
