Leading disaster response and recovery organizations were awarded by Churches of Scientology Disaster Response,a member of the National VOAD (Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters) on World Civil Defense Day.

The idea was to recognize and celebrate their work in handling immediate chaos and the long term grind of returning to normal after a disaster either natural or manmade. Recover Tampa Bay, Inc. was high on the list as a coalition of long term recovery groups that really continues for the long haul until the job is done. Operation BBQ Relief, a group that cooks and distributes delicious food in great abundance to those affected by catastrophe, also received an award.

Catholic Charities, a group involved in all phases of response and recovery, cited a specific time when the "Yellow Shirts" of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers showed up and saved the day. The facilitator of the Hillsburough county Citizen's Corp was also recognized, for his coordination of volunteer efforts in his community.

The Church of Scientology of Tampa was honored to host the event with the national group, Churches ofScientology Disaster Response, and as always are proud to be part of this community. The Volunteer Ministers operate as their founder, L. Ron Hubbard, instructed, "Something can be done about it."
