Educating Everyone About Human Rights Safeguards All from Oppression

If I value the rights of everyone around me, mine are safe. We need to teach Human Rights at every level.

Human Rights. What are they really? Rights are considered to be intrinsic values that are legal, social and ethical considerations. The origin of the word "rights" traces back to an Indo-European root that means traveling in a straight line. Human Rights are freedoms and responsibilities that a human being, a person, has just because they are a person. It is important to understand that freedoms do not exist with our responsibilities.

One primary responsibility we need to exercise is education. Every citizen of earth needs to be educated about what their rights are just as human beings. It isn't just those whose rights have been infringed who need to know so they can fight back. Those individuals who have never had a moments thought about someone infringing on their rights need this knowledge. They need tom understand the rights of all the people around them. They need to really get that it is their responsibility to protect the rights of all the rest of humanity. The safest our freedom is is when we are creating freedom for everyone else. We can start by getting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights taught in every course room and at every level.

This alone would create a surge in the application of the Golden Rule, stated here in two different aspects by L. Ron Hubbard, "Try not to do things to others that you would not like them to do to you." and, "Try to treat others as you would want to be treated." www.thewaytohappiness.org @waytohappinesstampa
