Coronavirus as a Chaperone, Who would Have Thought?

Masks, gloves and social distancing do not a hot date make.

Dating is an adventure in the best of times. During this time of Coronavirus, it is even more so. I had an experience recently that wasn't truly a date, but still, I am female and he is male and he asked me out for dinner. Ok. Maybe that is a date... but there was no intention or expectation of romance. He arrived to pick me up, having showered and changed into clothing that was freshly washed, wearing a mask and nitrile gloves. I proceeded to spray down the interior of his truck with hydrogen peroxide. I, too, was wearing a mask and gloves. We went to a restaurant that was only using partial capacity, and sat a safe distance from one another. It was not until he took off his mask to drink some water that I found out how much of his beard was gone. But this is Florida in the Summer... so a beard inside a mask can be very, very warm. He is a handsome man anyway, though I had really liked his beard. After our meal, masks were instantly back on.

So, what if this hadn't been someone I already knew? It is quite another thing to try to flirt with one's face all covered up. And simply holding hands is not all that enticing with hands that are properly encased in gloves. It isn't particularly comfortable at arms length, either.
The distance of 6 feet is not particularly social, and it most certainly isn't enticing in a romantic or sexual way. Who ever thought that a virus might turn out to be an effective chaperone? Coronavirus is very tricky. Still, close companionship is a basic human expression of greater survival, and we will find a way to connect. "Be faithful to your sexual partner.", Mr. L. Ron Hubbard wrote in The Way To Happiness. This holds true. www.thewaytohappiness.com @waytohappinesstampa
