This is a season of celebration. As days grow shorter and hours of darkness grow longer, our bodies respond to some ancient command to hibernate... ok, so maybe hibernate is an overstatement. There is, though a sense of wanting to be warm and cozy, to drink hot things, and to rest. Colds, flu, Coronavirus and whatever other germy thing that may be floating around out there do not really become strong, they just are what they are. It is that our immune systems seem to take a nap, or maybe they just don't ramp up for the extra stress we put on our bodies. In our exuberance to bring life to the darkness, we add more activities to our already jam- packed days and weeks. These activities are expected to be fun and joyful, but can involve close contact with people with whom we already have some history. This can be good. This can be not so good. The not so good aspect is also a challenge to our immune system. Being inside with the windows closed and in close proximity with other people brings more likelihood of germs that might be carried by those other people, even if they are the ones who truly bring us joy!
So you can see why it becomes super important to pay attention to the needs of your body. It is a very integral part of our overall well being! There are some simple and direct things we can do In The Way To Happiness, L. Ron Hubbard says, "Take care of yourself. ... Keep your body clean. ...Eat properly. ...Get rest." He does elaborate, and it is helpful.
