Filling in the Blanks is a non-profit dedicated to fighting childhood hunger by providing children in need with Meals on the weekends. They have a free/reduced lunch program that provides weekend meals to children in local pre-schools, elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and camps. For just $5.25 a weekend, every child gets a bag of non-perishable, easy to prepare food items plus a fresh piece of seasonal fruit. Most of the children in their program get breakfast and lunch from school on the weekdays, and would have gone hungry over the weekends.

By co-founding Filling in the Blanks, Shawnee Knight from New Canaan has married her love of food, community, and charity. Shawnee is also a passionate chef who is classically trained at the French Culinary Institute. She is a mother to two young boys. One of her sons is a sophomore at the Skidmore College.

Shawnee lives with her husband Douglas Knight in New Canaan, CT.
