To help businesses in New Zealand achieve sustainability, NaturalFlow offers alternative septic tank systems that naturally treat wastewater. The separate treatment of grey water increases water efficiency of non-potable water.

[Maungaturoto, 03/10/2018] NaturalFlow, a natural wastewater treatment system developed by Waterflow NZ Ltd, increases water efficiency in businesses through a special grey water treatment.

Unlike regular wastewater treatment systems, NaturalFlow harnesses natural processes to treat grey water and black water separately. This process allows businesses to maximise the non-potable usage of water and cut down on utility costs.

What is Grey Water and What are Its Uses?

Grey water comes from baths, showers, laundries and dishwashers, while black water comes from the toilet and the kitchen sink.

Depending on the type and source, grey water is safe to reuse for watering houseplants, landscaping or even flushing the toilet. After undergoing further treatment and disinfection processes, grey water can also be utilised in hotels, malls and offices.

Separate Treatment of Grey Water and Black Water

NaturalFlow provides treated grey water that is safe for reusing due to its separate treatment from black water, unlike standard septic tanks that dump both types of water into one treatment.

Black water is treated through the Wormorator, which uses tiger worms to naturally decompose solid waste. Grey water is treated using an aerobic process that naturally breaks down the scum and solids from soap. The resulting water is safe to be reused and released into the environment.
