Electricity can be perilous, and attention must always be given when working with it so as to avoid making any life-threatening catastrophes. These mistakes, often made by those who are untrained with working with electrical installations, can be deadly. Electric cable comes in different gauges, each designed for a particular type of use. This can easily occur if the staples which are used to fasten the cables to the wall studs are driven too firmly. Another problem that can happen with plastic wires is leaving it exposed and unprotected. This leaves it vulnerable to being destroyed, and should always be avoided. It can be protected by attaching a 1-1/2 inch wide board alongside the wire. This will protect it from dangerous damage.

Electrical Contractor Mistakes - Sockets and Backboxes

Switches and sockets must always be wired in the correct way. If a home has a two prong outlet, these cannot be rewired with a grounded socket unless the wiring itself is also upgraded to be grounded. Electricians Manchester also must never put a over unearthed backboxes or unearthed sockets.

Outlets and switches can also run into problems if they are not fitted correctly. This can cause them to come loose, even making the cables to loosen from their terminals. This will cause arcing and overheating, which can create a fire hazard. Loose outlets should be repaired with new screws so that they are fitted firmly.

Electrician Manchester terminations should never be made outside of backboxes. If this happens, the termination has no protection from electrical damage and the arcing and heat that can be made. Electrical backboxes should never be overfilled. If there are too many cables in one box, this could cause arcing or short-circuiting, which will result in a fire. There are specific regulations that need to be followed when working out minimum box depths.

Cable terminations should also never be made too short, because they will have poor terminations. If short wires are encountered, they should be secured by using crimped extensions. When using sunken electrical boxes, they need to be flush with the wall behind combustible wall surfaces. Or, they represent a combustion hazard. A metal or plastic box extension has to be used under these situations. These are some of the more common electrical mistakes that can be made, but of course there are many others.
