Choosing the right badminton racket is quite crucial to the sport. There are various types of players. Some prefer to smash while some are good with defence.

Do’s
• Choose the right weight to suit your need. Light-weight rackets enable you to be swift while heavier rackets provide powerful swings.
• Focus on string-tension. String tensions vary from racket to racket. Choosing the right tension that will suit your game will help you play your best. If you are a beginner, opting for lighter tension will suffice. For professional players, however, high-tension strings will enhance the performance. Hard-hitters benefit greatly from high-tensioned strings and vice-versa.
• Check for a T-bar that joins the head of a racket to the leg.
• Learn to string your own racket. This is a good practise and will benefit you in the long-run.
• Select a racket with the right head. A heavy head will provide more momentum while the benefit of light weight head is that the racket can be easily manoeuvred. Depending on the style of your game, choose the right head. Also, an oval-shaped head enables you to hit concentrated shots while a square headed racket creates a trampolined hit.
• Choosing a well-balanced racket is very crucial to an athlete. Some rackets have more mass focused near the head region while some are evenly balanced. Depending on your style of play, choose the right type of balance.

Don’ts
• If you are a beginner, do not buy a high-priced racket. Buy a decent racket with a reasonable price and practise with it. In time you’ll notice what factor will improve your game. Depending on that, buy an upgraded racket. It will be sensible to buy high-priced (good quality) rackets once you know the game well; you will understand better what kind of racket will enhance your performance.
• Do not buy a racket made of any other material other than carbon-fibre (graphite reinforced plastic). Carbon-fibre rackets tend to be light and most sturdy. Lighter the racket, less tiring the sport will be.
• It is always better to buy racket and strings separate. Most of the rackets come strung by default. If you are a professional choose a racket and strings separately; this will broaden your chances to customize your racket to the optimum level.

It is always advisable to buy reasonably-priced rackets first. Experiment with various kinds until you find the right type that will suit you best. Also, once sure, invest in a good-quality racket. A perfect racket directly implies to the best performance in the sport. Take good-care of your badminton racket and regularly check for the tension of the strings.
