Golu and Shiny were sipping hot coffee and eating cake on Saturday Morning. Golu was dressed in Jeans and Blue Jacket with Big A printed on it. For some reason, he was looking excited. Shiny asked Golu the reason for him dressing up and looking excited. To this, he mentioned that he is going to the airport to meet his friend from Russia, Sasha who is coming to explore an internship in India. This way Sasha can spend time in India and can complete his internship assignment as well.

Shiny smiled at listening to his answer and said all the best for his airport trip. Next Day Golu and Sasha were in Starbucks sipping Cappuccino when Shiny walked in wearing an Orange Jacket and Black Jeans. She has bought for them Cakes from Nearby Bakery. Post introduction the discussion shifted toward Internship.

How the internship is done in India and how is it done in Russia. What is some key ingredient of Internship?

Shiny mentioned that with Golu, she has gained a certain insight into internship and has also made a note of resources for an internship. Sasha smiled and sipped his coffee. He was a tall boy with a good build structure. His accent was impressive yet polite. He said in his accent if he needs to look up internship where all he can browse and can they share the information with him so that he can also benefit from it and can share it with his friends too.

Shiny asked Golu to summarize the Eleven 21st Century Skills needed for Internship. Golu tried but could not complete the list and asked Shiny to help him.

Shiny giggled and teased him for missing this critical information. Post that, she updated Sasha on the following skills list and also wrote them on a sticky pad and posted it on Sasha’s Notepad.

Shiny also marked the skills she has understood by now and asked Golu to check as well. As they were going through the list, Sasha asked Golu what does he understand by the term Accountability?.

Golu smiled and said being accountable to him means standing up for his actions and result of actions no matter if the results are good or bad.

Sasha appreciated his response and thanked him. He then asked Golu how it is related to One’s Career or Internship.

Golu thought for a while and answered he think one’s career accountability may not be under his control and thus he may not be accountable for his career fully.

Shiny disagreed on this and they had a hot discussion on this for a while. It was decided to put the question to INTERNSAGE. At this point, they told Sasha about INTERNSAGE and how he helps students from various regions of the world to master the concepts of Internship. They all started for INTERNSAGE workplace.

When they arrived INTERNSAGE was having the discussion with PLACEMENT Coordinators from various colleges on the need of changes which were needed in the MBA and BBA Curriculum to bridge the gap between Education and Corporate World and also on the readiness of MBA students for Corporate World of 21st Century Skills.

INTERNSAGE Gifted each placement coordinator following Card Set and asked them to share with their college mates when they go back.

On the card it was the quote of LES BROWN:-

INTERNSAGE smiled when he saw GOLU and SHINY and asked them to take a seat. He also welcomed SASHA and asked him to feel comfortable in asking any question he has.He was further appreciative of their quest to explore the things that shall add value to their professional and personal front.

INTERNSAGE asked them to have a long breath first and asked what has bought them to him. They said they have read about Accountability and they do understand it to some extent but are not sure how it impacts them or their choice of career or their growth etc?

INTERSAGE said let’s learn about what is Accountability first. He started with a small parable of a village :-

There was a small village near the Jungle and everyday wild animals used to attack the village animals and small kids. Villagers called for a meet with Khalifa (The Head) to update him on the issue and suggestion to save the village from the attack of wild animals. Khalifa arrived on a camel and he asked villages for details on the attacks and demography of village.

Villagers kept on updating him on demography and the side of attack which was most often used by wild animals. Khalifa advised them to put a fence around the village so that wild animals cannot enter the village and all agreed and Khalifa left the village.

Everybody was supposed to help in building fence but no one took the initiative and hence the attack continued.

At this, the INTERNSAGE paused and asked Sasha, Golu, and Shiny for their understanding of the inaction on part of villagers. Why no one worked to build the fence knowing very well that it is important ?

Golu thought for a while and said as no one was assigned to do it.

Shiny said no one took ownership of it everyone thought other shall do it for them

Sasha said no one was measuring the progress or tracking whether they are working toward the goal of building the fence or not

INTERNSAGE smiled and said now you have understood accountability.

A person who is ACCOUNTABLE is the one ultimately answerable for the correct and thorough completion of the deliverable or task. He might face challenge or roadblocks on the way but he is the only one accountable for the outcome.

Similarly, as the student or corporate citizens you are Accountable for your career no matter how are the circumstances in the corporate world.

Shiny, SASHA, and Golu understood the definition and thanked INTERNSAGE. INTERNSAGE smiled and invited them for Coffee with him .Before leaving Golu,Shiny and Sasha thanked INTERNSAGE for Great Insight and promised that they shall share this detail with their colleagues and fellow students.
