Southlake, Texas –Jan 18, 2019 - Lung cancer is a common type of cancer mostly diagnosed with smokers. The process of lung cancer diagnosis entails the evaluation of the patients’ cancer smoking history, development, and exposure to environmental factors that may cause cancer.
“In diagnosing lung cancer, a patient is put under intensive X-ray in order to establish the extent of the cancer symptoms,” explains Dr. Kancharla. “In most cases when the cancer is severe, the X-ray diagnosis may establish the cause of the symptoms identified.”
The following are some of the diagnosis and treatment methods for lung cancer:
Sputum test – If cancer cells in the lung are starting to emerge, this test will show the evidence of such actions. The doctor collects sputum for over three days to ensure accurate results.
Surgical removal – Using a mechanical surgical stapling device laser, a small video camera may be inserted into the patient’s body to help in the removal of affected lung tissue for a test in a medical lab.
Thoracentesis- The fluid surrounding lung tissues is taken using a small needle for a further lab test.
“Many treatment methods can be suggested for a patient depending on the development stage of lung cancer,” notes Dr. Kancharla. “Cancer detection before a patient begins showing symptoms increases the chances of being cured.”
