Houston, TX – Vannessa Vasquez, who stars as Camila in Hulu Network’s original series “East Los High,” will star as Mila Sweeney in Sorrow. The film premieres at at River Oaks Theatre in Houston, Texas as well as on Amazon Prime Tuesday, April 21.
The film follows the story of Mila Sweeney, a young woman who is kidnapped and tortured by serial killers. However, she manages to escape and enacts her own ingenious form of personal vengeance.
Vasquez said the story was so intense she had nightmares every day on set. It became such an extreme reality for her that she had to take a day off to “reset.”
“It was creepy. Even the place where we shot felt haunted,” she said. “Either it was or the set design crew did an amazing job.”
This is Vasquez’s third feature film having recently starred in both Narca and Misfire. She said it is her dedication to character and hard work that have gotten her feature film roles.
“I really work hard at what I do, and I think directors see that and other people start noticing that,” she said. “When you work with people on set and people see you work, they see how much you dive into a character. People talk, and then they refer.”
Sorrow began as a short film, but with writer and director Millie Loredo at the helm and Vasquez in the lead, Sorrow was successfully turned into a full-length feature film. Loredo and Vasquez will travel the country to screen the film in six cities in five different states following its release in Houston, Texas.
