The Churches of Scientology Disaster Response and Volunteer Ministers went to aid the people impacted by Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas
Once we had the okay to get to Freeport to help we started arranging the volunteers from Tampa, Clearwater and all over, the supplies and the modes of transportation to get everyone there and back. Working with the local government in Freeport, we were kept informed of which areas we were needed in to distribute the much needed water, food and supplies. This has been being done daily since our arrival on the Island of Freeport. We connected with other Organizations to be able to reach more people with more food, water and supplies. On the weekend of the 21st and 22nd of September there was a huge distribution effort in a big park on the Island which that Saturday was called “Relief Day” of which 20,000 people came to collect what ever items they needed or wanted. We helped to make that happen, working along side other groups and organizations. We worked with fellow FLVOAD member Operation BBQ Relief to serve 7,500 hot meals to people in attendance. We also had our yellow Volunteer Minister tents up where we provided physical and spiritual relief with our “Assists” (gentle techniques developed by Founder L. Ron Hubbard) We also allied with ACT Alliance, also a FLVOAD group to get cases of water to an area that was heavily in need of fresh water. We packaged and distributed thousands of hot meals through out the week prepared by World Central Kitchen.
We are still there helping with distribution, debris removal, chain saw on downed trees, getting tarps on roofs and what ever else we can help with. The motto of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers is “SOMETHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT”
