Wednesday, June 26, the Church of Scientology of Tampa Hosted more than 50 people who gathered to get the latest news on the actions to prevent drug abuse and to keep people informed about the facts and truth about Drugs.
The event opened with the beautiful voices of singing children, who delighted everyone. The Master of Ceremonies, the President of the Florida Foundation for a Drug-Free World, introduced our speakers. First was the Chair of the Hispanic Service Council. She explained that the Drug Free World materials could help children and parents know the facts about Drugs. She informed the audience that one of the problems they find was that kids and teens were really curious about LSD. Also, for the Hispanic community, there are differences in what drugs are available, and it can be a problem to learn to recognize the signs of certain drugs used in the US.
The second guest was a Capitan from the Florida National Guard Counter Drug Task Force. He explained how they collaborated with other institutions, from governments to non-profit organizations. Their job goes from collaboration to prevention and education about drugs, and in alliance with Drug Free World, and the use of their materials they reach a lot of schools all over Florida.
The President of the Foundation for a Drug Free World Florida closed the event introducing The Foundation to everyone present. After the speakers, new partnerships were created, and more materials were delivered to reach more people from the community. Two Pastors, volunteers and an organization that helps farmers now share our vision a World free of drugs.
The Foundation of Drug Free World is a nonprofit public benefit corporation that empowers youth and adults with factual information about drugs so they can make informed decisions and live drug-free.
No one, especially a young person, likes to be lectured about what he or she can or cannot do. Thus, we provide the facts that empower youth to choose not to take drugs in the first place. Additionally, our Truth About Drugs campaign consists of activities that they can join which popularize drug-free living. These activities are simple, effective and can involve people of all ages.
Through a worldwide network of volunteers, 50 million of drug prevention booklets have been distributed, tens of thousands of drug awareness events have been held in some 180 countries and Truth About Drugs public service announcements have been aired on more than 500 television stations. These materials and activities have helped people around the world learn about the destructive side effects of drugs and thereby make the decision for themselves to not use them.
