September 21 – an Old School Runescape moderator has been dismissed by Jagex. The company has released a statement related to the firing of this former mod. However, it does not include the name of the terminated Jagex employee. Players, however, have speculated that it is Mod Jed, as his Twitter was suddenly shut down. His Runescape accounts were also subsequently banned.
Mod Jed has been involved in a number of hacking incidents. Players have been reported to lose billions of OSRS gold for no apparent reason. There are players that claimed it was an inside job, but it was quickly shot down by most of the player base due to lack of evidence.
Another incident related to Mod Jed was the DDOS attacks during the 2017 Deadman Autumn Festival tournament, with many participants suffering losses from them. It was, later on, discovered that the winner, 5PLUS50K12, was using a botfarm to commit DDOS attacks. These cyber-attacks require the IP address of targets, leading a lot of players to believe that one of the mods had something to do with the said attack.
While Jagex neither confirms nor denies Mod Jed’s involvement in both cases, players who lost their OSRS gold had it returned by the devs themselves.
