A recently taken survey has instigated how all dentists including cosmetic dentists Pembroke Pines were managing their practices during the current COVID-19 pandemic in the U.S. The results provided an insight at the current state of the dental industry in the U.S., which is facing unprecedented challenges.

Over 1,000 dental practices all over the U.S. participated in this survey conducted by the dental supply company Net32. Out of all the respondents, 90% were owner-dentists which shared insights on the changed business practices, needs, and worries. It was concluded that most of the practices were open by appointment only (68%), while 20% of them were fully closed, and the remaining 12% were open only for emergency care.

Out of all the practices that were fully closed, the primary reason for closing included state mandate (83%), COVID-19 risk towards dental team (70%), lack of adequate PPE (46%), and federal recommendation (32%).

Practices were lacking adequate protective equipment

Almost 90% of the surveyed dental care offices had one of their biggest worries as not being able to procure enough PPE and other supplies to get their practices up and running. Out of those supplies, some of the most prominent ones were N95 face masks (75%), surgical masks (50%), hand sanitizers (50%), disposable gloves (40%), and liquid sterilant (40%) as they were difficult to come by.

Also, additional key findings were that almost 70% of dental practices had implemented layoffs while 30% had retained all of their staff. Merely 11% of the dental practices had retained their staff at full pay.

Dentists were planning to rely heavily on government assistance programs in order to help them get through the lockdown while nearly 46% have been dipping into their personal savings for saving their dental practices.

Of all the practices that were seeking government assistance, almost every practice applied to the Payment Protection Program whereas others were hoping to receive Economic Injury Disaster Loan advances.
