It is a town unit in the north of Crete, bordering the Mediterranean / Aegean Sea.

The town is about 25 kilometers east of Heraklion and west of Agios Nikolaos.

So it is in the middle between the two big cities !

Hersonissos translated in Greek means in fact its peninsula and harbour.

It is part of the Heraklion regional unit.
Who visits Hersonissos

Well everybody !

But…

Many people visit Crete every year just to visit Hersonissos.

Especially youngsters.

It has a lot of restaurants, cocktail bars, hotels and restaurants.

Of course Hersonissos is very close to the beach.
What to do

Hersonissos is a resort area in Crete, which also hosts the only golf club on the island.

The park is one of the most popular water park on the island of Crete.

It is situated 5km from Hersonissos and only 30km from the city of Heraklion.

It’s next to the Crete Golf Club. The only golf club in Crete

The water park is split in to two section connected to each other.

The one section is for adults and includes a large number of extreme slides with

high adrenaline and the other section for children.

The gorgeous garden is the most impressive area of this water park.

Cretan flowers and trees together with exotic flowers come together to create a Garden of Eden.

It’s entrance price includes sundbeds.

Our personal favourite is the black slide and the lazy but you can decide for yourself !

Star Beach is wonderful water park located in Hersonissos.

They have activities like water sport, bungee jumping and endless party.

Seven pools, bars & restaurants.

Good for families, friends and solo travellers.

The Hersonissos Aquarium

The aquarim is called aquaworld and it is Crete’s first aquarium.

Aquaworld displays local sea life and reptiles from everywhere!

Hands-on interaction with many of the animals is encouraged.

Labyrinth Theme Park

The Labyrinth Theme Park is a family destination park with numerous interactive activities and attractions.

It is nestled in the scenic hills above the town of Hersonissos in an area of 15 hectares.

The main theme of the park is the Labyrinth, but there will be plenty of other things to do as well!

Enjoy the variety of video viewings on the Minoan Civilization shown throughout the day in the projector room.

Participate in a round of Mini-Golf, or allow the children a turn on the many quad bikes available!

There is an Eco-Garden for nature lovers with Cretan aromatic herbs, local fruit and vegetables

and many flowering plants, all labeled in many languages. Naturally, the Cretan Stone Labyrinth

can also be enjoyed by the tiny tots.

After exercising your brain and legs, an impressive café, reminiscent of ancient Knossos,

is there to serve and relax you! Refreshing drinks, a choice of mouthwatering and

crisp salads and sandwiches and plenty of ice cream for the kids, will keep your hunger and thirst at bay!

Dinosauria Park in Gournes.

The Dinosauria Park is a theme park in Gouves.

Gouves is about 10 minutes from Hersonissos by car.

The park is about dinosaurs as the name suggest and it is defintely

worth the visit.

Best Beaches

There are several beaches in Hersonissos, some with blue flag status.

These include Potamos (blue flag) Karteros, Tobruk, Arina (municipal beach), Vathianos Kampos,

Kokkini Hani, Gournes, Gouves, Apolselemis, Analipsi, Anissara (blue flag), Sarantaris (municipal beach),

Hersonissos, Stalida, Klotsani, Malia and Potamos (municipal beach and blue flag.

My personal favourite is Saradari it is especially good for windy days as it

is a bay. It is very close to the famous hotel Hersonissos Village.

Hersonissos Nightlife

Hersonissos is of course one of the most famous places

in Crete for it’s night life and endless partying.
