Palo Alto-based relationship counselor and psychotherapist shows commitment to clients experiencing mental health struggles during the COVID-19 crisis.

05/13/2020: the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the lives of millions of people across the globe, with several countries, states, and cities going under a lockdown or facing stay-at-home orders.

Social movement and interaction have been curbed and restricted, except absolutely essential errands and work such as grocery or medical emergencies. It's a difficult time for citizens the world over, as they adjust to this new way of life.

This has also led to a reorientation of how many businesses and workplaces function, shifting operations to virtual and digital spheres. With people working from home and managing to sustain employment, it's an adjustment to strike a balance between family and work.

Others still have had to leave behind colleges, apartments, and states to move back home with family, or have had to give up on employment opportunities till further notice. It's been difficult for people all around to find their new normal, experiencing emotional, mental, and physical turmoil.

Additional stress regarding the virus itself in the form of health concerns, loss of loved ones, falling ill, and self-isolation have also been incredibly trying, leaving individuals with feelings of grief and anxiety.

All in all, the onslaught of uncertainty and fear has made people uneasy and in need of support. Practitioners like Azizeh E. Rezaiyan have made their anxiety counseling and therapy services available to clients via video and audio mediums.

She is able to work with regular clients, especially couples (married, cohabiting, cross-cultural, same-sex, premarital) experiencing various issues and problems. From infidelity to issues with their sex life, her specialty lies in these areas.

She says, “The job of a mental health professional is to help their clients in distressing situations. Couples and individuals are undergoing a massive transition, and we don't know how long it will be before life resumes as normal.

“It's a lonely, difficult time, and I want people to know that I am doing my best to help. Through online sessions, they can stay on track and work through their issues or seek help for things that are surfacing right now.”

Acknowledging the intensity of grief, anxiety, depression, especially in light of the pandemic, she also offers free 20-minute consultations for people looking to seek therapy. With over two decades of experience, she has worked with dozens of couples and hundreds of clients during her career.
