What does it stand for? MOT stands for the Ministry of Transport,

the government department that introduced the test in 1960 as a means of testing vehicle safety, exhaust emissions, and roadworthiness.
Do you want to know the check MOT history, or the expiry date of your MOT? Want to know why a vehicle failed the MOT? No problem, we will answer all your queries and tell you your MOT status.
What are the MOT rules?
Vehicles should receive their first M.O.T. when they reach 3 years of age. If a car is registered with no prior use on the road, the M.O.T. will be required three years after the date of manufacture. For example, a car registered “from new” on 25th April 2000 will require its M.O.T.

Are MOTS online now?
Since the MOT system moved online, there is less need for a printed MOT certificate. If you sell your car, or need to buy car tax, then the government system can check MOT status automatically. Anyone buying a car can check the MOT and tax status online, as all you need to do so is the registration number.
Can I drive my car without MOT if it is booked in?
You are only allowed to drive your car when its MOT has expired IF you've booked in for the test and that's where you're driving to. If you're stopped on the way you MUST be able to prove that you have an appointment with an MOT centre.
Is there a grace period for MOT?
Many people believe that there is a two-week grace period for lapsed MOTs – which can allow drivers a leeway period to get their vehicle booked in for their MOT test. Unfortunately, despite popular belief, the 'MOT grace period' is actually a myth
What is a class 7 MOT?
Class 7 MOTs apply to commercial vehicles that have a gross weight of between 3,000kg and 3,500kg - for example, larger versions of vans like the Mercedes Sprinter and Ford Transit. If you're not sure if your vehicle falls into this weight category, you can check your V5 registration document or handbook
