International Workshop on Mobile Multimedia Internet

Posted September 7, 2018 by Shreyasahoo

An international workshop was jointly organised by the Departments of Computer Sc. And Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Applications at the PIET

‘It is rightly said that training the minds to entertain thoughts without acceptance is the strongest tool which is responsible for nine tenth of education.’ Working on this principle this workshop was conceived by the Chief Patrons Shri Hari Om Tayal, Chairman PIET, Sh. Suresh Tayal, Member Secretary, Sh. Rakesh Tayal, Memebr BOG and Dr. Shakti Kumar, Director PIET.

This week long workshop was conducted by Dr. Seshadri Mohan, Professor, System Engineering Department, University of Arkansas, USA with an objective to ignite the young minds for optimisation of the thought process and putting it into practice. Dr. Seshadri Mohan, who has worked with the best of the companies during his professional career, has to his credit 14 patents in the area of wireless location management and authentication strategies as well as in the area of enhanced services for wireless, which he shared in detail to the glorious gathering of 269 attendees, 35 out of which from other parts of the country and the remaining from PIET. He also has authored/co-authored over 100 publications in the form of books, patents and papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings with more than 5400 citations to these publications.

It was truly an fairy and interesting experience for the current century youth, who are already wedded to internet and Mobile Multimedia, to have a glimpse of the evolutionary historic facts of its development from the very basic Graham Bell’s instrument to today’s wireless 5G and ever evolving Next G network via Telegraph, Teleprinter, Fax, Pager, Feature Mobile to today’s Smart Phone concept, which symbolises the ‘Divine Eye’ concept gifted to Sanjay by Lord Krishna during the Mahabharta war.

Dr. Seshadri Mohan said, “Evolution is the simmering process for a big bang shift of paradigm, which is neither stable nor permanent. Every such revolution again turns into a simmering process to give rise to another change. That is what we are facing today. In fact this is the newest business model which helps to provide millions of jobs without employing people.”

He further added that unmindful of different predictions by business pundits, practioners and academia’s, all thoughts appear to merge at one point that ‘markets are in flux due to technological advances’. The fusion of market place categories and emerging new segments has re-written the story of the competitive business landscape. Mobile phone technology and cloud computing have weaved new terminologies like ‘immediacy’ and ‘responsiveness’ which are the two key words of today’s technical scenario. Here postponement is a curse and can result into catastrophe.

Speaking on the occasion of this prestigious workshop Prof. Shakti Kumar, Director PIET, said, “It is a matter of pleasure to have amongst us Dr. Seshadri Mohan, who is an eminent personality on the subject of information technology. IT is one of the greatest means of transforming the society in the present era. It directs the virtual transformation of almost every component of our life today; the style of working, the means of living, the way of communication, building knowledge, doing business, etc. IT influences our welfare, democracy, healthcare, environment and society overall. It won’t be incorrect to say that IT is revolutionary and has majorly changed the face of promotion and marketing too. IT is the greatest channel of globalisation as it connects people worldwide within fractions of seconds. Thus, it will certainly help our country to join the race to be at par with other major countries of the globe. In the age of knowledge driven society, decisions, development and growth is based upon the principle of any information, any where, any time. IT just helps to meet this much needed requirement.”

He further added that we can’t ignore the fact that digitalization has its own challenges and shortcomings too. Some of the challenges which we may face today are reaching out to those people who don’t have access to internet or who live in remote areas. After devoting a careful thought to this problem, the PIET management has come up with different promotion plans to apprise staff and students on this very vital subject through such seminars and workshops... I hope you have an engaging and enriching session ahead.

Presenting the vote of thanks on the concluding day Mr. Rakesh Tayal, Memebr BOG, PIET said, “ I need to multiply ‘Thank You’ word a thousand times to match the efforts of all who are a part of this workshop, because if time is money, you all have spent millions on us by being a part of this week long workshop. I feel honored and privileged to get the opportunity to propose a vote of thanks on this special day.

This is one of the biggest days in the history of our institute to host such a big technological workshop with 269 participants and that too for a week. I convey my regards and hearty thanks to the learned expert Dr. Seshadri Mohan, who has been able to carry along the audience through the development history of Information Technology and digitization from scratch to what we are today. ”

He further added that it is just the beginning of a new chapter in the PIET book of records and in the coming times many more ventures like this will be scheduled to enrich the young minds, which is our social responsibility also.

I would also like to thank organizing team, teachers, and staff members. I should not forget to thank the volunteers and student teams, who put their last complete week in arranging this workshop. I would also like to thank our transportation and accommodation team; without you guys, this event was not possible. Thank you very much again.

The feedback obtained from the participants pointed out that the workshop was an excellent learning experience by the participants.
